Sepultura is on their Final North America tour, “Celebrating life through death” - this statement is definitely a bit bittersweet for any Metalheads. The iconic band from Brazil has been around for more than 40 years and decided to retire for the time being. The tour consists of 2 more icons - Exodus and Biohazard, and one of the talked about new death Metal bands from Texas - Tribal Gaze. On May 13th, the stop was at Reverb in Reading, PA. The show started with Tribal Gaze, who set the tone for the night with some bangers like “Beyond Recognition”, “Guarding the illusion”. Next was Biohazard - one of the pioneers of the New York Hardcore Punk scene. That was one of the power-packed performances of the night with Evan Seinfield on Vocals and the bass, Billy Graziadei on vocals and the guitar, Bobby Hambel on lead guitar, and Danny Schuler on the drums. Along with the music, they also made some statements that definitely needed to be said in this day and age. The setlist consisted of iconic songs like “Punishment”, “Shades of Gray”, and “F**K the System”. Next up was the thrash metal legends - Exodus. Throughout the set, it was proven that old school thrash metal is timeless. Tom Hunting on Drums, Jack Gibson on the Bass, Rob Dukes on Vocals, Lee Altus and Gary Holt on the Guitar made sure that the moshing does not stop with songs like “Blacklist”, “Bonded by Blood”, “The Toxic Waltz”. Also, the celebration went to the top when they celebrated Lee’s birthday on stage with a cake and beer. Finally, Sepultura came on stage with Greyson Nekrutman on the drums, Paulo Jr. on the Bass, Andreas Kisser on the guitar, and Derrick Green on the vocals. Right from the get-go, it was a celebration of the band’s legacy with songs from almost all of their albums that definitely include the biggest hits like “Territory”, “Refuse/ Resist”, “Ratamahatta” and “Roots Bloody Roots”. During the song “Kaiwoas” it was a celebration of percussion with multiple drummers, and Evan Seinfeld joined them for the song “Slave New World”. The moshing and crowdsurfing did not stop throughout the set, and looking at the crowd of fans of different ages, it was clear why they are true legends. As a fan myself, I wish that after the much-needed break, they come out of retirement sometime so that we can experience their lives again. Finally, a shoutout to the organizers, management, and the venue for the great execution of the show.
