It’s Friday the 13th, and normally you think to YOURSELF that for Jason Voorhees to come out and KILL some CAMP counselors, but at the Queen in Wilmington, Delaware, the only killing that happened was done by CKY, Camp Kill Yourself. The most understanding parents, April and Phil Margera, introduce CKY to the stage as the packed house chants “CKY, CKY, CKY” and dancing out to the stage, Chad Ginsburg and Jess Margera as the mob goes wild. Wasting no time, the band is straight down to business, opening with Rio Bravo. CKY barrages the audience with all of the classic hits. We barely Escape From Hellview to Disengage the Simulator before we sink into the underground, but we’re Close Yet Far from ending the night.
Stopping mid- set to ask if anyone remembers Bran’s Asian Freestyle, a fan is dragged on stage and, to the amazement of the crowd, gets complete stage fright and completely freezes up. Chad laughs it off and decides to move on with the show. I’m sure as much as the fan was probably embarrassed in the moment, they will always remember being on stage in front of the sea of audience members. CKY is an exceptionally fun band to watch, which engages with their audience, gets people pumped up, and delivers a solid set. Catch them on tour if you have the chance. Definitely one not to miss.
