Underground Arts is one of the most important venues for the music scene in Philly. The space represents the local arts, community, and music in a really unique way - with distinctive wall arts, intimate space, great food & drinks, and local faces.  The space completed 13 years, and the celebration was done with one of the most important garage rock bands of all time, who performed at the venue multiple times before - Osees. The night started with DMBQ from all the way from Japan. The band has represented Japan’s rock and roll scene for a long time now and is known for their unique sounds and presentation. The energy and passion of the band were something that needed to be experienced. Shinji Masuko on guitar, Maki on the Bass, and Shinji Wada on the drums put up a great start for the night. Next up, within 15 minutes of DMBQ’s performance, the 2 drum sets were brought to the front of the stage. The audiance was getting ready to mosh and jump with the first song as Osees came to the stage. Osees is not only known to put up multple records throughout the years but also for the unique sound where the rhythm almost takes the front seat. John Dwyer on the guitar and vocals, also the founder member of the band, Dan Rincon and Paul Quattrone on the drums, Tomas Dolas on the keyboards and Tim Hellman on the Bass made sure that the celebration goes to the peak with one song after another. The band has almost a cult following over the years, and I spoke with fans who drove 3 hours just for the show. The long setlist consisted of “A Foul Form”, “Carrion Crawler”, “Funeral Solution”, and a lot more. It is really hard to write about an Osees show - because it is something to be experienced, how the sound hits the roof with the footthumping of the crowd. Overall, it was an abosolutely perfect celebration for the Underground Arts and kudos to all the people and employees who contributed to the venue’s succes story.
