On August 3rd, The Met Philadelphia was graced with an ethereal night of music as The Marías brought their Submarine Tour to the stage, with the opening act, Automatic, setting the perfect tone. Automatic, a trio composed of Izzy Glaudini, Lola Dompé, and Halle Saxon, captivated the audience with their synth-driven post-punk sound. Their performance featured tracks from their album Excess, including the thought-provoking “New Beginning,” which critiques corporate culture and the false hope of escaping to a better place.
The Marías followed, transforming the venue into a dreamy cinematic experience. The band's seamless blend of English and Spanish songs, paired with mesmerizing jazz percussion, hypnotic guitar riffs, and María Zardoya's velvety vocals, enchanted the crowd. Their setlist included hits like “Real Life,” “Run your Mouth,” and “Ruthless,” as well as a tribute to Bad Bunny with "Otro Atardecer” taking fans back to Puerto Rico for a few minutes. The lighting and stage presence amplified the surreal atmosphere, making the performance feel like a dream come to life. The Marías’ undeniable musical chemistry and innovative sound left the audience spellbound, cementing their reputation as a rising force in the indie pop scene.
