Doylestown, PA native Anthony Green has been showing his love for South Jersey since the beginning of his solo career. Released in 2008, his debut solo album is entitled “Avalon”; a beach town in South Jersey where the album was recorded. Green just finished a UK stint where he opened for MCR at Wembley Stadium. Twelve days later, Anthony Green kicked off his solo tour entitled “This Tour Won’t Save You” on July 23rd at Atlantic City’s Anchor Rock Club. Personally, I believe that the first show of his tour was put near Avalon on purpose. Green played a no-barricade show to ~500 people, accompanied by Thursday’s Geoff Rickley and Good Old War’s Keith Goodwin.
Green began his set by playing some selections off of his solo albums, notably “Avalon” and “Boom. Done.”. At about halfway through his set, Green announced that a friend of his would be joining him on stage for the next song. Then, Sweet Pill’s lead vocalist, Zanya Youseff, emerged from the green room and took the stage with Green. Together they covered “Porno for Pyros" 1993 hit, “Pets”. Transforming the piece from slow and angsty into an angrier, outspoken song. Green himself is a fan of the band’s lead vocalist Perry Farrell, citing him as an inspiration for his own music. In the music video released alongside the song, you might notice that a portion of it was recorded that night! (Any portion with Zanya was recorded in Atlantic City.)
After “Pets” was over and Zanya exited the stage, Green moved on to playing some selections from Circa Survive and Saosin; two bands Green has been, or is a part of. Then played a few more from his solo career. Once that section was over, Green and his band exited the stage. After hearing the audience chant “One More Song!” for a few minutes, they emerged from stage left. They closed the night out with an encore featuring “Get Out”, a Circa Survive song, and “I'm Sorry for Everything I've Ever Done”, a deep cut from Green’s 4th album, Pixie Queen.
