Avenged Sevenfold is on their “Life is But a Dream” North America tour. The tour is divided into 2 parts - Alexisonfire and Kim Dracula support the first part. We were present at the Camden, NJ show on July 18th. Freedom Mortgage Stadium was packed up to see the three acts and especially witness A7X after a long time.
The night started with Kim Dracula all the way from Australia. Kim is really popular on social media - especially on Tik Tok and YouTube and almost has a cult fan base. Kim's presence on stage was something to look for - one time Kim brought a chainsaw on stage. The bandmates were all masked up in Japanese Hannya masks. Kim's music and style reminded us of MCR and Korn. The setlist consisted of - “Superhero”, “Make Me Famous”, and “Paparazzi” (Cover of Lady Gaga). Next up, was another band from outside the US - Alexisonfire from Canada. The post-hardcore band absolutely destroyed the stage. George Pettit on the vocals and Chris Steele on the bass shined with their stage presence. I wish to see them live sometime at a smaller hardcore venue. Their setlist consisted of songs like - “This could be anywhere in the World”, “Boiled Frogs”, “Accidents”, and “Young Cardinal”. Next up the stage was cleared and set for what everyone was waiting for. The crowd was cheering “Sevenfold! Sevenfold!”. Finally, it went dark and M. Shadows came with his black mask on and sat on the small seat in the front of the stage. Following him Zacky Vengeance, Johnny Christ, Brooks Wackerman, and Synyster Gates came to the stage. The crowd just went crazy. It all started with “Game Over” and “Mattel” - The same start as their latest “Life is But a Dream…” album. The visuals on the LED screens were taking the whole act to the next level - The fires look real, and the animations were stunning. Then followed 2 of their biggest hits - “Afterlife” and “Hail to the King”. The setlist went back and forth between their new album and classics - it truly gives one an idea of how their music evolved over the years. The set finally ended with the numbers from the latest album - the same as how the album ended.
The show was something that will be remembered by all for a long time and we would highly recommend all to catch them live on this tour. Finally kudos to the management and organizers for the successful execution of the show as part of the tour.
