Deafheaven is on their North America tour alongside Gatecreeper and Trauma Ray, and on May 12, the stop was at the Union Transfer in Philly. Trauma Ray started the night with some complex musical elements to kick off the night. The Shoegaze band from Texas was loud and with the essence of melodies in their songs. The setlist consisted of songs from their new album Chameleon and some other numbers as well. Next up, it was the mighty Gatecreeper. We can tell there was a big fan base who came to witness their favorite death metal band from Phoenix, AZ. Chase, Eric, Matt, Israel, and Alex literally destroyed the stage with unmatched energy. The Setlist consisted of songs like “A Chilling Aura”, “Caught in the Treads”, and “Flamethrower”. Finally, it was Deafheaven who took the stage. Mainly a black metal band with elements of Shoegaze - that makes them one of the most important bands of the Blackgaze genre. George Clerk on vocals, Kerry McCoy and Ian Waters (Replacing Shiv Mehra for the tour) on Guitars, Chris Johnson on Bass, and Daniel Tracy on drums literally crushed the set, and fans reciprocated constantly. George, as the front man, is a powerhouse and knows how to interact with the audience throughout. The setlist mainly consisted of the songs from their new 2025 album, “Lonely People with Power”. Overall, it was a great show, and we highly recommend seeing them live while they tour. Finally, a big shoutout to the management, organizers, and venue for the successful execution of the event.
