The Swedish Garage Rock legends The Hives were on their North America tour to celebrate their last album “The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons” and on September 29th the stop was in Philadelphia at The Fillmore. There were more reasons to celebrate the show as Philly’s very own Garage Rockers The Mary Veils was opening the show. It all started at 8 PM when The Mary Veils got on the stage with the same uniform and “DELCO Trash” written on the back. From the get-go the audience knew it would be something different and the band absolutely did not disappoint to put up a perfect start to the night. Brian on the Vocals/ Guitar, Andrew on the Guitar, Justin on the Bass, and Evan on the Drums performed one after another garage rock numbers like - “Jelly”, “Esoteric Hex”, and “Bone Blossom Green”. Having seen them perform before on the smaller venues it was amazing to see them perform on the big stage with such glory. Next, the stage was set up with the letters H, I, V, E, and S put up in the back of the stage and The Hives came on the stage wearing the iconic Black and White suits. for the next 90 minutes, it was a burst of energy on stage that got transmitted to the audience. Howlin’ Pelle, the band's frontman, took control of the stage along with the lead guitarist Nicholaus. Vigilante on the Rhythm guitar, Chris on the drums, and Johan on the bass put up an amazing performance. The Hives is known for their amazing stage presence and there were some moments that were unique - Like a complete pause in the middle of a song. The setlist consisted of all of their best songs including - “Bogus Operandi”, “Walk Idiot Walk”, “Tick Tick Boom”, and “Hate to Say I told you so”. Overall it was an absolutely stunning show and kudos to the management and organizers for the successful execution.
