Two of the biggest experimental rock bands are on tour right now - Tomahawk and Melvins. On July 27th, the stop was at the Union Transfer in Philly. Fans were ready to witness some of the legends - Mike Patton, John Stanier, Buzz Osborne, and many more together on a single night. The night started with Melvins with Buzz Osborne on vocals and guitar, Steven Shane McDonald on the bass, Dale Crover, and Coady Willis on the drums. This is one of the few bands where the 2 drummers take center stage and almost drive the performance. The band is known to mash up genres like sludge metal and grunge to create a unique sound that only Melvins has. The high-energy set consisted of songs like “Honey Bucket”, “Night Goat” (Trevor Dunn joined them for this song), “A History of Bad Men” and more. Next up was Tomahawk- the fans were really excited to see them perform because it is not a very common event to happen. Mike Patton on the vocals and Keyboards, Duane Denison on the guitar, John Stanier on the drums, and Trevor Dunn on the Bass delivered a set that any fans would have asked for. The supergroup is one of the most experimental alternative bands. Even though the members are from Faith No More, Helmet, or the Jesus Lizard, the band was able to create their own sound. The setlist consisted of songs like “God Hates a Coward”, “Point and Click”, and “White Hats/ Black Hats”. Overall, it was a great show, and a big shoutout to the management, venue, and publicists for the successful execution of the show.
