Kicking off their headliner summer tour entitled “Camp Screamo”, Silverstein played the Stone Pony on July 12th. Accompanied by fellow emo legends Story of the Year, along with Origami Angel and Ally Nicholas. From the start, Silverstein brought the same kind of energy that made them famous back in the 2000’s. Both clean and unclean vocals from frontman Shane Told and crabbing from their guitarists. Near the end of the night, Shane screamed to open up the widest circle pit the pony could hold. In 4 years of doing concert photography, I have never seen a pit so large or feared for my camera more, and I was caught right in the middle of it. Despite the crowd's age, they opened it side to side.
Silverstein has been a band for nearly thirty years. The same people who saw them as teenagers had brought their kids to see them now. A particularly sweet moment was when a father-son duo was crowdsurfing together earlier in the set. While Silverstein played a mix of older and new songs, notably a few off of their latest album, “Pink Moon”. The band closed out the night with an encore of two of their biggest songs, both off of their debut and sophomore albums. “Bleeds No More” and “Smile in Your Sleep”, respectively.
