Hailing from Austin, Texas, Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol took the stage Saturday night at Philly’s Kung Fu Necktie Bar. The opening bands were local groups Kelli Maning and Mandrax. Kelli Maning, a local Philly duo, got the crowd warmed up and on their feet with some garage punk. Followed by Mandrax, a NJ-based psychedelic progressive rock trio.
Bringing heavy fuzz and a roaring crowd for their set, Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol had everyone thrashing their heads around to the driving bass lines from the first song. “Play Cincinnati Tilt!!!” Someone screamed from the crowd as the three-piece band ripped up the stage with other crowd favorites; Grease Beast and Sho In. The frontman kept the crowd in his grasp with his erratic movements while shredding the guitar. The energy was electric as the crowd started to open up a small mosh pit to jump at the front of the stage. Fans threw themselves around by the stage as the set whirled on and the room quickly started to erupt in cheers and dancing. The trio had the audience sweaty and begging for more music as it neared the end of the night. Ending their set with the fervently requested, Cincinnati Tilt, Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol gave Kung Fu NeckTie a rowdy, heavy groove-filled night to remember.
